Import a Roster from a Link

Published

Your roster is already online. Names, numbers, positions, class years, and usually a headshot for every player. Until now, getting it into SportStudio meant copying it into a spreadsheet, saving a CSV and importing that.

Now you can skip the spreadsheet. Paste the link to your roster page and SportStudio pulls the players into a collection.

How it works

Open Collections, pick your roster collection and click Import from URL. Paste the link and click Find players.

SportStudio reads the page and pulls out each player, matched to the fields your collection already has. If your collection has Number, Position and Year, that’s what it looks for. If you’ve added your own field, like Hometown, it looks for that too. Headshot photos on the page come along with each player.

A progress bar runs while it works. Bigger rosters take longer, and a big one can take a few minutes.

Nothing saves until you say so

What we find shows up in an editable table first, with a thumbnail for each headshot. Fix a typo, fill in a blank, or remove a row with the x (a coach listed with the players, say, or a player who transferred). If the collection already has players in it, choose whether to overwrite them or add these as new rows. Then click Import.

This part mattered to us. Roster pages are messy, and every school’s site is laid out differently. We’d rather show you what we found and let you check it than quietly write it into your roster.

Headshots come cleaned up

After the import, SportStudio fetches each player’s headshot and removes the background, the same way it does for photos you upload yourself. Headshots that are already cut out get skipped. Once that finishes, your roster is ready to link to a player intro and render.

When a page won’t read

Some sites load their roster with JavaScript after the page opens, and we don’t read those yet. If SportStudio can’t find any players, it tells you. Try the direct link to the roster page rather than the team’s home page. And if a site still won’t cooperate, the CSV import works the same as it always has.

Adding your roster covers both imports, and Linking a collection covers what comes next.
