Sponsors for Every Board

Published

Most sponsor overlays cover something. Put a bar across the bottom of a matchup graphic and it lands right on the team names. Put one down the side and it clips the logo. The sponsor gets seen, but the video you built is worse for it.

TV solved this a long time ago with the squeeze-back: the program shrinks and slides over, and the sponsor gets its own space. SportStudio now does the same thing. Add a sponsor bar, and your content squeezes to make room.

The layouts

Pick a layout from the Sponsor Layout dropdown:

  • Lower Third runs a bar across the bottom. The video gets shorter.
  • Side Left and Side Right run a bar down one side. The video gets narrower.
  • L-bar Left and L-bar Right combine the bottom bar with a side bar. The video gets smaller in both directions.
  • Bug puts a small logo in the corner. It’s the one layout that doesn’t squeeze, because it’s small enough to sit over the content.

Set the bar’s width and height with sliders, and pick a background color. A thin bar is a light touch. A wide L-bar gives a presenting partner real estate.

How the squeeze works

The content doesn’t just get pushed aside. It shrinks from the center, then shifts toward the open side by half the bar, so it ends up centered in the space that’s left. Logos, text and photos settle into the smaller space around the bar, and nothing sits underneath it.

It works on your board, not just a standard HD frame. The squeeze is worked out for your board’s actual shape, so a square board or an extra-wide one gets the same clean result as a 16:9 screen.

Behind the scenes

We rebuilt this more than once. Early versions moved the content after the fact, at render time, and the preview and the final video didn’t always agree. The fix was to build the squeeze into the templates themselves. Each template now carries the instructions for how to make room, so what you preview is what renders.

The bar artwork works the other way. It isn’t copied into every template. There’s one shared sponsor bar design, and it’s brought into your video at render time. When we improve the bar, every template gets the improvement at once. And if the bar ever fails to load, the video still renders as a normal board instead of failing.

Where this fits

Sponsor bars sit alongside the in-template sponsor spots from the Sponsor Editor. Use a template’s built-in sponsor spot when you want the partner woven into the design. Use a bar or L-bar when you want the partner in their own space for the whole video.
