Preparing player photos

Good headshot graphics start with good photos. Here's how to get shots that hold up.

What a good source photo looks like

  • High resolution, at least 1000px on the short side
  • Sharp and in focus
  • Evenly lit, no harsh shadows on the face
  • Shot the same way for every player (same distance, angle, and crop)
  • A plain, uncluttered background

The mistake we see most

Grabbing photos off social media or a website. They're almost always too small and fall apart when you scale them up. Get the originals from your photographer.

About backgrounds

SportStudio can remove the background from a player photo automatically. A clean, evenly lit shot gives you the best cutout.

Where to get photos

  • Your team photographer or media day
  • Your athletics communications staff
  • A quick, consistent phone shoot against a plain wall, if it's lit well
